Congratulations, you have just taken the first step toward attaining membership into the Cana Volunteer Rescue Squad. By joining the crew you become part of a legacy that started years ago when EMS was barley in its infancy. Before you continue though, know what you are signing up for. You will volunteer long hours, and will be required to undergo extensive training for no monetary compensation. You will be pulled from your warm bed in the middle of the night, running into the freezing cold, deafened by the wail of a siren to answer the call of a person in distress. What you will see may haunt and upset you.

By helping people at their worst though, you will be lifted up to your best. The gratification of those you serve will inspire you to continue. Whether you simply lend a helping hand to those who have fallen, or perform an immediate life saving intervention you will leave feeling purposeful and accomplished. You will learn to appreciate the simple aspects of life. The skills and knowledge you learn here will last a lifetime and will be taken everywhere you go. The friendships you make and bonds you create will provide an existential experience nothing else can provide.

No experience is necessary for membership. We will mentor and train you throughout the course of your probation. Required classes for full membership are offered year round.

If all of this sounds appealing to you, a preliminary membership application is below. Complete it and it will be sent to our membership lieutenant, who will contact you with further instructions and with a more formal application.

We look forward to welcoming you in as a member of our family.

Benefits of Membership

  • the opportunity to help people in your community
  • rescue squad license plates
  • the experience you gain at CVRS is useful for many jobs and academic pursuits
  • you will meet and network with many individuals from diverse professions, backgrounds, and interests

Requirements

There are a few basic requirements for membership.

  • You must be at least 18 to join the senior squad, or at least 16 to join the junior squad.
  • You must have an acceptable criminal record. Applicants with felony convictions will not be considered.
  • You must pull your assigned duty shift, or have it covered.
