Two Injured in Fancy Gap Wreck
Sun. Jul 12th 2009

As seen in the Mt. Airy News: Two men involved in a Sunday afternoon wreck on U.S. 52 near the Blue Ridge Parkway were transported to the hospital.

Capt. Brandon Jones with the Cana Rescue Squad said although the names of the victims were not known by press time, the male in his 50s was transported by AirCare to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The other victim, a male in his 60s, was transported by ambulance to Twin Counties Regional Hospital in Galax.

“They were both pinned in and entrapped. We were able to get them out through the windshield,” said Jones of the rescue effort.

AirCare landed at Fancy Gap School.

Jones said the truck appeared to be traveling north when it rolled over onto its side. The accident happened between 3 and 3:30 p.m., he said.

Jones said the man who was transported to Baptist hospital had pretty severe head and chest injuries.

The men were traveling in a burgundy 1990s model Ford F-150.

Virginia State Trooper Shawn Rector investigated the accident, but could not be reached before press time Sunday night.

In addition to the Cana Rescue Squad, the Cana Volunteer Fire Department and the Carroll County EMS responded.
