I77 Tractor Trailers collide...
Tue. Feb 23rd 2010

CVRS(Cana Vol. Rescue Squad), along with multiple agencies, responded to multiple MVC's during the early morning hours of 2/23/2010. Once members arrived on the scene, it was noted to have started with a jack-knifed tractor trailer at mile-marker 1. Causing traffic backups, this led to multiple MVCs.

Hillsville Vol. Fire Dept. responded to assist CVFD with HazMat control.  Carroll Co. EMS, also, responded to assist with patient triage, assessments/treatment, and possible transports. VA State Police and Carroll Co. Sherriff's Dept., also responded.

With the assistance of Cana Vol. Fire Dept.having to climb through 2 tractor trailers, a male victim was extricated from entrapment in his rig. Once extricated, the patient was ambulatory and he was transported by CVRS to a local hospital with minor injuries and due to mechanism of injury. Mulitple refusals were obtained at the scene and only minor injuries were noted.

CVRS would like to thank all those who responded to assist with this call. From dispatch to  EMS, Fire, and Police; we could not do not our jobs without teamwork and dedication to serve.
