| Cana Rescue Participates in a County wide Disaster Drill |
Sat. May 9th 2009
On Saturday, May 9th Cana Rescue Squad was invited to participate in the County Mock Disaster Drill along with all rescue and fire agencies within the county. Carillion Air Care also participated. The disaster drill consisted of all agencies working together to respond to a school bus that had been hit by a farm truck transporting chemicals. There was also a diesel fuel leak. This exercise was extremely beneficial to both rescue and EMS agencies as well as Fire Departments. As a group we all had to work together and use our resources. We had everything from walking wounded to aircare patients that had to be extricated and then be decontaminated prior to transport. This was an excellent drill that utilized all resources. This was held at the Hillsville Fire Department with Jack Tolbert, Regional Hazmat Officer planning much of the drill. This drill used the rapid triage system to prioritize our patients. This was a very positive training event for everyone and we look forward to possibly doing this again in the Fall. Food was also provided by the Hillsville Ladies Auxiliary. Great experience.
